COVID Visiting information

Heide Museum of Modern Art will re-open to the public on Friday 18 June.

We are working hard to ensure the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers by implementing a range of hygiene and physical distancing measures, adhering to the guidelines issued by the Victorian Government. Please read the following information carefully to help us protect everyone’s health.

  • Admission tickets are available to purchase at the reception desk at Heide’s main entrance. Access is not timed but visitor numbers will be monitored in each building. Please note, you may be required to queue prior to entry.

  • We are encouraging contactless payments, so please bring a credit or debit card for any on-site purchases.

  • We ask that you please do not visit if you are unwell, have experienced cold or flu symptoms in the last 14 days, or have returned from overseas in the last 14 days.

When you are at the Museum:

  • Please start your visit at the Heide Galleries main building to purchase your ticket and to check in (all visitors are required to check in using the QR code provided at the main entrance).

  • A fitted face mask must be worn indoors at all times unless a lawful exemption applies. For more information see the Victorian Government website.

  • Please use the hand-sanitiser provided at each building on arrival.

  • Help us to maintain social distancing within our buildings and grounds by keeping at least 1.5 metres space between you and others at all times and not entering a room if it is not possible to safely socially distance.

  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and put the tissue in a bin.

  • Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds in our restrooms.

  • Cloaking facilities will not be available so please do not bring large items of luggage with you.

It is a condition of entry that all visitors adhere to these requirements at all times during their visit.

Health and safety measures we are adhereing to:

  • Clearly marked entry and exits with signage to help visitors maintain safe distances.

  • Each of Heide’s exhibition buildings has a maximum capacity, based on the rule of 1 person per 4 square metres. Please follow instructions from Heide staff.

  • We have removed some seating in the gallery spaces to allow for physical distancing. Folding chairs are available and cleaned regularly, please ask a Visitor Services staff member if you require a chair.

  • Cleaning of the site will be undertaken daily complying with DHHS and WorkSafe guidelines, with high touch areas sanitised frequently throughout the day.

  • All Visitor Services Staff are trained in maintaining health and hygiene protocols.

  • We will continue to be guided by the Victorian Government’s health guidelines and will provide updates to this information.

FAQs:

Is the Heide Café open?
Yes. For more information and to book a table vist the cafe page or call them on 03 9852 2346.

Is there a time limit to how long you can stay at the museum?
No. Your admission ticket gives you access to all exhibitions at Heide any time between 10am and 5pm on the day that you purchase your ticket. Please note, each of Heide’s exhibition buildings has a maximum capacity which will be monitored by Heide Staff. You may be required to queue prior to entry.

I wish to redeem my gift ticket?
To redeem gift tickets please call the museum on 03 9850 1500 between 10am and 5pm Tuesday to Sunday, and our staff will provide assistance and help register you for your chosen time.

Are guided tours available to the public?

Have the Heide Learning programs recommenced?
Yes, please refer to the Learning section for more details and to book.

I am unable to visit at the moment; do you have an online collection or virtual tour?
There are interactive online programs plus creative activities to do at home available on our Heide at Home page. The Heide Collection is also available to explore online.
