VCE Programs

Heide Learning offers a range of tours specifically tailored to VCE arts curricula. Teachers are invited to engage students in years 10–12 in any of the following programs.

VIEW LEARNING PROGRAM PRICING

MAKING MEANING

In this program students examine the practice of an exhibiting artist, focusing on their influences, interpretation of subject matter, and use of materials, techniques and processes to communicate meaning. This program focuses on the requirements of Unit 3, Outcome 3.

ART INDUSTRY CONTEXTS: INSIDE THE MUSEUM

This two-hour program gives students behind-the-scenes insights into the role of Heide as a public museum. Students meet with a selection of museum staff to learn about the processes of curation, presentation and promotion of exhibitions, as well as the conservation of artworks in the Heide Collection. This program focuses on the requirements of Unit 4, Outcome 3 and is subject to the availability of Heide staff.

Installation view, An Idea Needing to Be Made: Contemporary Ceramics

ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORKS

In this program students analyse, interpret and respond to artworks using the Analytical Frameworks. Layers of meaning are considered and students learn to recognise attributes of an artist’s style. Students also reflect on the gallery environment, considering the ways in which artworks are presented for exhibition.

DESIGN IN PRACTICE

In this program students reflect on the architectural design process, learning how the firm McGlashan Everist worked with clients John and Sunday Reed to create Heide Modern, “the gallery to be lived in.” This tour enhances students’ understanding of historical and contemporary Australian design, environmental, industrial and communication design and includes a tour of current exhibitions.
