Ken Whisson and John FoubisterGoing Back In

John Foubister, Birds and Flowers Near a Bush Giving a Peace Sign 2019–22, courtesy the artist

A chance meeting in 1984 between the Italian-based Australian modernist Ken Whisson (1927–2022) and the regional South Australian artist John Foubister  (1954–) led to a lifelong friendship. Conducted by post and over the telephone, the wide-ranging conversations over the subsequent decades unfolded against the backdrop of changing personal circumstances and radically different lives. Presenting artworks by the celebrated modernist and his younger counterpart, this exhibition offers a meditation on exchange, artistic influence and camaraderie.
