View art after dark when we keep the doors open late for cool summer nights of art and live music featuring the Australian Art Orchestra (AAO).

Four exhibitions will be on show: Mirka Mora: Pas de Deux—Drawings and Dolls, Meditation on a Bone: Albert Tucker Beyond the Modern, Danica Chappell: Thickness of Time, and in the modernist building Heide II: Sweeney Reed and Strines Gallery.

With an emphasis on improvisation, the Australian Art Orchestra explores the meeting points between disciplines and cultures, and imagines new musical forms to reflect the energy and diversity of twenty-first century Australia.

25 January: Percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson has been a frequent collaborator with the AAO for many years, appearing in various works such as Water Pushes Sand at Melbourne Festival 2015, Sex, Lies and Videogames in 2017 at Sydney Festival and From the Air at Arts Centre Melbourne in 2018. With a long history in experimental music, Vanessa uses this body of knowledge to consider how we listen through site-specific explorations, and to explore new collaborative sonic ideas.

16 February: Martin Ng is a highly accredited and internationally renown experimental turntablist. He’s a regular collaborator with the Australian Art Orchestra appearing amongst others in the programs Exit Ceremonies in 2016, Sex, Lies and Videogames in 2017 at Sydney Festival and Diomira at Melbourne Festival 2017.
