Ian Fairweather and China

Regarded as one of the most significant 20th century artists to have worked in Australia, Ian Fairweather’s work is represented in the Heide exhibition House of Ideas: Cynthia Reed’s Studio. which brings together artists and designers including Sam Atyeo, Moya Dyring, Adrian Feint, Michael O’Connell, Margaret Preston, Frederick Ward and others who shed light on Reed’s place in the development of Australian modernism.

Art historian Dr Claire Roberts, with exhibition curator Lili Belle Birchall discuss Fairweather’s experience of Chinese life and culture and the significant role this played in his development as an artist. This learning resource is developed by Heide and the Australian Institute of Art History.
