Meeting a dream: Albert Tucker In Paris 1948 – 1952 is the inaugural exhibition of Heide’s new Albert & Barbara Tucker Gallery.

When Albert Tucker left Melbourne in 1947, he began a thirteen-year journey through Europe and North America, during which time he transformed himself from the least ‘Australian’ of artists, into a painter with a rich understanding of his native country’s complex characteristics. Tucker made Paris his base for five years, using the time to experiment with materials and consider his artistic future.

The exhibition includes many of the paintings Tucker exhibited in his 1952 solo show at Galerie Huit, Paris, and features works on paper and photographs not previously shown in Australia.
