Professional Development
Heide offers a range of Professional Development sessions for Teachers throughout the year to coincide with major exhibitions. The sessions are conducted by experienced educators, curators and artists and focus on providing a range of teaching and learning models through curriculum and exhibition-focused sessions.
The next Professional Development session will take place in Term 4:
But is it painting?Contemporary art, contemporary issues
9.30am-4.00pm Monday 27 October 2008
Speakers: Zara Stanhope, Deputy Director, Senior Curator, Raafat Ishak, Artist, Elizabeth Newman, Artist
Do you want to broaden your understanding of contemporary art? Are you struggling to define postmodernism for your students?
Join Curator Zara Stanhope and Melbourne artists Elizabeth Newman and Raafat Ishak in a session addressing current issues and debates surrounding contemporary art. Following a viewing of The world in painting, a discussion forum will uncover the complexities of defining contemporary art, with a particular focus on the genre of painting.
Raafat Ishak will conduct a practical workshop, using examples of his own work to illustrate ways to reflect on and question different aspects of the world. Examining themes including language and symbolism, Ishak will demonstrate how teachers can use concepts as the starting point for practical art-making.
