Heide celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special exhibition, New to the modern: Heide twenty-five years on. Drawn from Heide’s Collection of over 2,000 works of art, dating from the 1930s to the present, the exhibition connects ideas and practices in surprising ways, inciting unexpected dialogues between works that share viewpoints and inspirations rather than periods or styles.
The mutability of the Australian landscape, shifting perspectives on identity, both individual and cultural, and the ongoing relevance of sociopolitical concerns, are all explored. Iconic modernist works, including those by Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, Joy Hester, John Perceval and Sam Atyeo, are shown alongside the later figuration of contemporary artists such as Imants Tillers, Ian Burn, Gunter Christmann, Gareth Sansom, Patricia Piccinini, Gordon Bennett and others.
