Booking your visit

Bookings are essential for all school, TAFE and university groups visiting Heide Museum of Modern Art, including self-guided visits.

Please complete a booking request form with three date preferences for your excursion dates. A Heide staff member will contact you via the phone number you provide to confirm the details of your booking.

Please note that a purchase order number or payment method is required to make your booking.

Please read Heide Learning Terms and Conditions before making your booking.

Subsidised Visits

Heide Learning is committed to equitable access for all. Thanks to some generous philanthropic grant funding, we are able to provide fully subsidised programs and bus hire for schools experiencing disadvantage due to low SES status, geographical distance or students with additional needs. Group size and supervision of students

Teachers and supervising adults are required to remain with students at all times during your visit.

Self-guided groups:

Self-guided groups require enough supervising adults to enable the students to move around in small groups.
Students must be accompanied in exhibitions at all times.
Adult supervision is required at all times with the following student:adult ratios:

  • Years F-2 8:1
  • Years 3-6 12:1
  • Years 7-12 16:1
  • Tertiary 25:1

Heide Learning programs:

We request that no more than two adults accompany each group of up to 15 students during their tour and/or workshop.
Additional adults are welcome to explore the Sculpture Park and Gardens or to purchase admission to visit the exhibitions independently.
Your booking confirmation will state how many supervising adults have been included in your program booking. Please allow only small, supervised groups of students into the Heide Shop and Heide Café.

Length of visit

Learning programs vary from 45 – 120 minutes and can be booked from 10am, when the museum opens. If your group arrives before 10am you can go for a walk around the Sculpture Park, have a snack and use the toilet facilities in the upper carpark.

Many groups opt to stay onsite all day for lunch and to explore the Sculpture Park and Gardens. If you have booked a self-guided visit in the afternoon, please observe appropriate group supervision.

Bus/Coach Parking

The car parks at Heide are not suitable for large buses so we advise bus and coach drivers to park in the bays on Templestowe Road, immediately preceding the entrance to the museum at 7 Templestowe Road (alongside the picket fence).

Arriving and Cloaking

We ask that students’ bags are left at school or on the bus, as we have limited cloaking facilities. Lunches, water bottles and sketchbooks can be brought in tubs that will be stored at the Sidney Myer Education Centre.

Toilets are accessible in the upper carpark, the Heide Galleries and at Heide Café.

Lunch and refreshments

Lunch can be eaten in the Sculpture Park and in the nearby Banksia Park picnic shelters. In the event of wet weather we do our best to find somewhere for school groups to eat their lunch, but this cannot be guaranteed.
