When John and Sunday Reed purchased the Heide property in 1934 it was an old dairy farm with very few trees. They immediately began planting out the acreage with European species, in keeping with the prevailing tastes of the era. After a major flood in November 1934 destroyed almost all they had planted, they decided to abandon exotics in favour of native and indigenous flora. Join David Murphy, Heide’s head gardener, for a virtual tour and discussion about the significant trees of Heide.
