
All education programming and resources at Heide align with the VELS curriculum frameworks and VCE Study Designs and include:
The Arts Domain: Dimension Exploring and Responding. Students will develop an understanding of social, cultural, political, economic and historic contexts and constructs, to consider ways that artworks reflect, construct, reinforce and challenge personal, societal and cultural values and beliefs. Students will develop creative thinking and communication skills through listening to others, viewing and responding to artworks, including the formation of opinions and understanding the reasoning of others.
The Arts Domain: Dimension Creating and Making. Students will be provided opportunities to express a range of ideas, feelings, and understandings through making, interpreting, creating and presenting artworks. They will use their imaginations to experiment with the elements, principles and conventions of art to develop skills and techniques.
The English Domain: Dimensions Literacy, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Students will articulate and express their responses to visual texts. They will describe and validate their ideas and opinions to provide rationales for these conclusions and are free to express themselves without fear of being judged right or wrong. Students will have the opportunity for oral and written expression of their responses, thoughs and feelings about artworks using a variety of literary conventions.
The Strands: Physical, personal and social learning, communication, creativity. Students will build upon their interpersonal skills development, building social relationships and working in teams. Critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills will be utilised through discussion and material exploration. Collaborative tasks will encourage team building to extend communication and negotiation strategies.
VCE Studio Art students will experience first hand how artists from different periods have sought inspiration, utilised materials and created techniques ithrough their art practice. Consideration will be given to the aesthetic qualities in artwork, stylistic choices and how this communicates ideas [see the Art Industry Contexts Tours] In practical art making workshops, students will be provided with opportunities to explore a range of materials and art making techniques.
VCE Art students will analyse and interpret a range of works on display at Heide using the Analytical Frameworks. They will compare and contrast works prior to and since 1970. Students will consider how artworks communicate ideas, directions and/or personal concepts. In art making workshops, students will investigate strategies to consider cultural expression and personal meaning within artworks.
