Contemporary Art

Contemporary art from the 1970s to today

Continuing in the spirit of the Reeds’ support of the art of their time, Heide has sought to expand its collection through the acquisition of works by contemporary artists. Since 1981 when the museum opened, the contemporary part of the collection has expanded through purchase and gift of individual works and the donation of a significant collection of ninety-three works—the Baillieu Myer Collection of the 80s.

The Heide Collection now includes the work of leading contemporary artists such as Gordon Bennett, Peter Booth, Mikala Dwyer, Patricia Piccinini, Robert Rooney and Imants Tillers, and outdoor sculptures by Rick Amor, Anthony Caro and Anish Kapoor.
